The industry is raving about the new hotness and rise of Platform Engineering. But is it really new? The popularity of building developer and runtime platforms is on the rise and the momentum only gathers pace as we continue to stand on the shoulders of giants such as cloud orchestration tooling, pushing tech further down the stack as commodity, and turnings practices around reliability, scalability, and security to be broadly accessible in day-to-day development. However, Platform Engineering has existed for decades and with that we can learn many lessons and approaches, that in turn give strong indications about where we are headed in the next few years.
In this talk, Crystal will draw on practically applied `lessons learned` from successfully rolling out developer runtime platforms at the BBC, Condé Nast, and most recently at Snyk: a unicorn start up in the DevSecOps space.
